Workshop Descriptions
Ethical Issues in Clinical Practice
This workshop will discuss the basics of developing an ethical framework for work in an
agency and private practice. A variety of situations will be discussed. Clinicians will have
the opportunity to ask questions throughout the training.

Objectives:
Common ethical dilemmas
Confidentiality expectations in the office, documentation and meetings
Agency and societal responsibility for disclosure of information
Challenges of solo clinical practice
Parent-child treatment goal conflicts
Marital counseling goal conflicts

Types of Depressive Disorders
This workshop will review all DSM IV diagnostic categories for depression and discuss
treatment options for clients in individual and group therapy.

Objectives:
Develop list of symptoms for diagnosis of depression.
Be able to distinguish between the categories of depression.
Develop realistic treatment time frames and treatment goals.

Impact of Depression on Families
This workshop will review the impact of depression on family functioning.

Objectives:
Understanding of multi-generation processes for maintenance of depressive behavior.
Develop treatment plan for depression with identified patient as mother, father, son,
daughter, grandparent or grandchild.
Develop plan for collaboration with physician who provides client’s medication.

Ethical Issues in Working with Families, April 6, 2005
This workshop will discuss the challenges of working with families. It will include a review
of common ethical situations that occur with spouses, children, and other service providers.

Objectives:
Review of boundary challenges in work with couples.
Establish guidelines for sharing information with parents when children are minors and
young adults.
Establish guidelines for communicating with extended family members and non-custodial
parents.

Disorders of Early and Late Adolescence
This workshop will review common diagnostic categories for disorders of early and late
adolescence. Therapy techniques will be discussed.

Objectives:
Understand developmental tasks of early and late adolescence.
Develop treatment techniques that engage adolescents.
Review resources for parents.

Depression in Patients with Medical Problems
This workshop will review common medical complaints that may be signs of depression.

Objectives:
Review common medical complaints and interventions.
Discuss mind body connection in treating depression in patients with medical problems.
Understand the emotional challenges of patients with terminal and chronic conditions.
